This route is truly a milestone for rock climbing at Castle Crag's State Park, as it is the hardest route done ground up with no bolts. Marbelous is one of many new school routes which have been developed recently by team Shastafari members iaN k@z, Steve Webber, and Styles Larsen. Some other new editions are Webbers "Impeach The President" a necky 10c with bolts added after the first ascent for the sanity of future ascents, "Jugs On The Horizon" a five star two pitch 5.11b, Larsen's "Bush Doctor"5.10b, a fun heady little warm up for the gully and the ultra classic, "Knot The End" 5.11c. Emilie on Bush Doctor 10b, Angela on Jugs on the Horizon 11b, Ian on Knot the End 11c photos by: Matt Callies and Sean Malee Box Canyon ProjectShasta Base Camp crew hooked up with some local boaters and Yates Gear of Redding to do some much needed repair on the access trail to Box Canyon. Yates, a local manufacturer of climbing and technical rescue equipment, donated 600' of static line to replace the old rope which had been there for most of the last decade and had obviously seen better days! The Base Camp crew along with Michael Kirwin, of Osprey Kayak School, and Sean Malee, a local kayaker, headed down in the evening on April 18th, replaced the rope, cleaned, and did some maintance on the trail. The evening culminated with a beer and stories of close calls and bad falls on approach trails.
